Mission Statement: For the past four years, Standard Western has been a rising force in the world of country line dancing, blending passion, experience, and a deep-rooted love for the art. Founded in Las Vegas before making its way to Nashville, the club is on a mission to build a strong community and set the gold standard for western line dance in America.
The History of Standard Western Country Dance
At the heart of Standard Western is George Blick, a six-time world line dance champion who has been dancing since the age of ten. Originally from the UK, Blick brought his expertise and competitive spirit to the United States, where he established Standard Western to elevate and grow the western dance scene.
Over the past year, Standard Western has worked with major country artists such as Lainey Wilson, Lanco, Ashland Craft, and John Pardi. They have choreographed performances for Albor Peck, Travis Tritt, and Lanie Gardner. Additionally, Standard Western launched America’s largest line dance competition—the Standard Western Line Dance Showdown, spanning 13 states with over 20 competitions. Despite their rapid success, Standard Western has faced challenges, particularly in keeping up with evolving dance trends while staying true to classic line dance styles. Their solution? A balance between innovation and tradition, ensuring that dancers remain connected to the roots of line dancing while also embracing what’s new and exciting. For Blick, the key to overcoming challenges is simple: passion and humility. “When you do something, you love, it doesn’t feel like work,” he says.
With continued momentum, Standard Western has big plans for the future. Their vision? To become a household name in America—expanding their competitions, growing their community, and bringing line dance to live audiences across the country. Their impact is already undeniable, and with each step, they continue to raise the bar for western line dance.
